For some reason he always chose to sit right across from her. Never next to her. She wondered why. It created more distance and that's not what he wanted, right? Since she'd come back things had been different. He didn't want to admit and blamed his changed behaviour on his job, his friends or his parents. She knew it was her. Cause choosing to sit right across from her was confrontational, but he stopped having eye contact with her. It was like he was warming up for a race but froze as soon as the gun went off. She wished he would just run. Because she couldn't do it. She was too stubborn and she wanted to hear him say it. She wanted him to say what had changed and explain why they had changed. She wanted him to hold himself accountable for whatever had happened while she was gone. Deep down in her heart she knew this would never happen. She would have to fire the gun and run for it. He never would. He would look at the ball but never hit it with the bat. He'd just wait until she got tired of waiting and grabbed the bat herself.
