The Path Man

"Why did my path just change? I told you I wanted it like this and then you go on and change it! You're the shittiest bricklayer."

"I'm not hired by you, you don't tell me what to do. And I don't like your tone. That tone is only gonna get you nowhere. I've met plenty of people in my time with that tone of voice and they all just be standing still, going absolutely nowhere. Them people like pointing fingers at me too and I saw you raising your hand right there."

"Can't I pay you to change my path back, then? Then you're hired by me. Don't I get any say?"

"Sorry, son. I've only got one employer. There ain't nothing changing that. Hell, I don't even lay down my own path. See Johnny over there? Yeah, he lays the bricks for my path. I've sure yelled at him too, but there's nothing to do when the master says to do something. You just gotta put your head down and do it."

"I think that's bullshit."

"I think you're just aggressive, because you're in the initial steps of coping with your new path."

"But this one is way steeper! The other one was so nice! And with flowers too!"

"The flowers are all your work."

"How do you mean? Why do I suddenly get control over anything?"

"The flowers are yours. It's your mind, if you like. You can plant flowers where you go or you can walk under the clouds. It's your choice."

"Sounds like you read too many self-help books."

"Sounds like you're still aggressive. Listen, my employer has the overview. Can you see over that hill?"

"No."

"Exactly. But my employer can and that's why your path changed. Either you're being protected or tested so you can grow. You just gotta have a little faith."

"Isn't it time for your lunch break?"

"It sure is! Now, if you touch these bricks they will set themselves aflame and you'll end up with wounds. Now we don't want that do we?"

"I guess not."

"I suggest you get busy planting flowers."
