Anna took the final steps into the ball room. It was a mighty fine room. Full of soft light coming from strings of light bulbs hanging everywhere. For a moment she just stood there and admired all the decorations. Somebody gently pushed her forward with an "Excuse me, ma'am." and she took a few steps forward and walked to the side where she could take the room in. There were yellow paper decorations hanging everywhere. A big purple cardboard bunny had been cut out and hung above the stage to signify that this was the Easter Dance. She let her hands run over the smooth fabric of her dress. She was so proud of her mamma for sewing such a lovely dress for her. There were several circle shaped layers to the skirt, so she could twirl and twirl and never get tired of the effect. Her dress was bright yellow, cause her mamma had convinced her she had the right skin for yellow. She didn't quite believe it, but she loved how the dressed hugged her in all the right places. She really hoped somebody would spin her around tonight. She took a glance around the room. It was starting to fill up with people real quick. Girls in red dresses, blue dresses, green dresses but only a few others in yellow dresses. Anna was happy she was one of the bold ones who chose yellow. Maybe somebody fine would notice her tonight just like mamma would've wanted. She saw her cousin enter. Her cousin was wearing a black dress with big flowers on it. She ran to her and they embraced and made a little squeeky sound from excitement. They sat down at a table and talked about the boys in the room. Anna's cousin had her eyes on a tall, lean, dark-haired boy in a dark blue suit. Apparently he'd opened her taxi door for her and she was now completely smitten. Anna said she couldn't decide on a boy to lock eyes with. The band came on and new couples entered the dance floor and started dancing in that respectful, careful way two people who have just met dance. Anna's cousin's guy was on the dancefloor with a litte brunette and her cousin sunk back in her seat and crossed her arms. She complained about the stupidity of dances. Of hopes getting crushed. Anna let her eyes wander over the bench warmers on the other side of the room. There was a little blonde girl in a green dress tapping her feet, dreaming she was one of the girls on the dance floor. Next to her sat a boy and shyly stared at his feet. To the boy's right was a girl. She was tapping her foot on the off beat. Anna eyes went up from the girl's foot, up her leg, over her red dress, the free hanging dark brown curly hair until she met the gaze of the girl. She felt like how all the novels said it was like. A shiver down her spine. The two girls smiled at each other. The brown haired girl winked at her and Anna looked away shyly. She took a deep breath and found her courage. She locked eyes with the brown haired girl again. And she knew she was in trouble.
