Little Lives

"The most interesting part of the job? It's probably that it includes many little moments where you get a glimpse of other people's lives. In a way it's super healthy. You're kind of reminded of the fact that every single person you meet is living a just as vivid and complex life as your own. I'm not sure, what it's called, I think it's called sonder. Two seconds... Yes, I'm right. I just looked it up. It's called sonder. Some people open the door, you know, in their underwear, some people are holding a dog back, others greet you outdoors because even a little glimpse into their lives is too much invasion of privacy for them. People are always happy to see you, but it's amazing how much you judge a person on a tiny interaction. Some people like to chat for a bit. The young ones are busy retrieving to their little caves. They use different little phrases to make the small amount of time you spend together go by with more ease. I know it's a small city but you also get a better understanding of just how many people there are in the world, in a way, you know. And you appreciate the wonder that we all coexist at the same time. Somehow we all fill our days with something. Even if it's nothing, you fill it with something. It's amazing that there's food enough for all of us too. I know, I know, people are starving, but if we redistributed our resources there's food for everyone. I know it's just a deliveryjob, but it makes you think. It's great to draw inspiration from too. Like, why did that woman order food only 150 meters from where she lived? Was she simply lazy? Was she taken hostage? Or worse - did she have children and couldn't leave the apartment? What about the young woman who clearly didn't belong in the mansion where she answered the door? What about the man opening the door in his bathrobe in the middle of the day on a workday? I've got stories for days now. Little lives that I move in and out of in a few seconds."
"Yeah okay, great. Ehm, we don't have enough time left for the next question, but thanks for the very ehm, in depth answer. Do you know the way out?"
